Youth Engagement and Development: The DHP was one of the vehicles designed by The Companion to actualize its commitment to all-around human advancement based on Islamic values for the ultimate goal of attaining Allah’s pleasure. It is also a demonstration of The Companion’s commitment to youth engagement and development.
The DHP is a ten-day camping programme designed by The Companion in conjunction with The Criterion and The Dawn for Muslims youths adross the Country to imbibe in them Islamic teachings and also engage them better on personal and career development.
The theme of this year’s DHP,
“THE TRANSFORMATIVE LEADER”
is aimed at teaching and training Muslim youths on how to become a better and responsible leaders in the society through engagements in several activities while learning about the Islamic and social ways of becoming a responsible leader. The camp will also teach delegates about Islamic values and engage them in career development. The DHP provides a stimulating environment with opportunities for learning from accomplished Muslim Professionals, experts and specialists in diverse fields of human endeavour.
The DHP features various activities which include sports, excursion, quiz competition, quranic memorization, vocational skill acquisition, public enlightenment, community service (involving free medical tests / services), teamwork, coaching and allied engagements. The 10 day camping programme holds every year from 23rd December to 1st of January. This year’s official opening ceremonies will hold on the 25th of December
The programme which is designed for young people from age 10 to 30 years is rotated among the various districts of The Companion and has been held in various states of the federation especially in South West Nigeria. In recent times it was held in Queen Elizabeth School in Ilorin in 2010, Fountain University, Osogbo in 2011, Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Badagry in 2012, Iqra College, Ilorin, in 2014, Federal Government Girls College, Omini, Oyo, Oyo State in 2015, Federal Youth Centre, Ode-Omu, Osun State in 2015, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State in 2016, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State in 2017.
Participants are usually divided into classes/groups depending on age and present class/status at the time of attendance. These classes include Junior Class (for participants in Junior Secondary School); Senior Class (for participants in Senior Secondary School) and Dawah Class for graduates and participants in tertiary institutions. Activities in the camp are designed to suit the age and learning capacity of each category of participants.
Adequate measures are usually put in place for the comfort of participants. These include fumigation of venue, adequate security of life and property, sickbay /medical services, adequate water and electricity supply, hostel and toilet facilities as well as feeding arrangements and most importantly, all Covid 19 protocols are expected to be strictly adhered to at this year Dawah Holiday Camp among others.
The Host District for this year’s DHP is Oyo, Oyo State and is taking place at National Youth Service Orientation Camp, Iseyin. Oyo State.
