Youth Engagement and Development: The DHP was one of the vehicles designed by The Companion to actualize its commitment to all-around human advancement based on Islamic values for the ultimate goal of attaining Allah’s pleasure. It is also a demonstration of The Companion’s commitment to youth engagement and development.
The DHP is a ten-day camping programme designed by The Companion as a platform for youth development and training in leadership, vocational and entrepreneurial skills as well as Islamic ethics and community service. It is an annual programme dedicated as a training ground aimed at helping Muslim youths to learn skills, acquire knowledge, develop, grow and realise their full potentials. The DHP provides a stimulating environment with opportunities for learning from accomplished Muslim Professionals, experts and specialists in diverse fields of human endeavour.
The DHP features various activities which include sports, excursion, quiz competition, quranic memorization, vocational skill acquisition, public enlightenment, community service (involving free medical tests / services), teamwork, coaching and allied engagements. The 10 day camping programme holds every year from 23rd December to 1st of January. Also, official opening ceremonies are usually organized on the 26th of December of every year

The programme which is designed for young people from age 10 to 30 years is rotated among the various districts of The Companion and has been held in various states of the federation especially in South West Nigeria. In recent times it was held in Queen Elizabeth School in Ilorin in 2010, Fountain University, Osogbo in 2011, Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Badagry in 2012, Iqra College, Ilorin, in 2014, Federal Government Girls College, Omini, Oyo, Oyo State in 2015, Federal Youth Centre, Ode-Omu, Osun State in 2015, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State in 2016, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State in 2017.
Participants are usually divided into classes/groups depending on age and present class/status at the time of attendance. These classes include Junior Class (for participants in Junior Secondary School); Senior Class (for participants in Senior Secondary School) and Dawah Class for graduates and participants in tertiary institutions. Activities in the camp are designed to suit the age and learning capacity of each category of participants.
A token registration fee is usually charged per participant and is payable before or at the point of registration in the camp. The fee covers feeding, accommodation, excursion, and materials for camping learning/training activities. The registration fee is usually grossly inadequate to cover all the camp expenses and this is why it is usually subsidized through donations from members of The Companion, The Criterion and other members of the public. Donations are therefore welcome from parents and the public in general.
Adequate measures are usually put in place for the comfort of participants. These include fumigation of venue, adequate security of life and property, sickbay /medical services, adequate water and electricity supply, hostel and toilet facilities as well as feeding arrangements among others.
The DHP is a collaborative effort involving contributions in various forms from The Companion, The Criterion and The Dawn. The Criterion is the female wing of The Companion while The Dawn is the Youth wing of the two organizations.
This year’s DHP will be hosted by Kwara District at An-Nur Islamic College, Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate, Oloye, Ilorin, Kwara State.
